Four Things You Can Expect When Installing A Custom Above-Ground Pool

If you do not want to invest in an inground pool, an above-ground pool is a great alternative. It can be just as good as an inground pool, and depending on your property, it may be a better solution for your home. You can also have custom above-ground pools installed. When installing a custom above-ground pool, there are a lot of decisions that you will have to make. Here are some of the things that you can expect when installing a custom above-ground pool:

1. Deciding Where To Install The Pool

The first decision that you will have to make is the location of your pool. If you already decks on your home, you may want the pool located in an area where future decks can easily be added to your pool.  If you do not have decks, you may want to locate the pool in a fenced-in area or where people and children cannot get to the pool and fall in.

2. Finding The Location Of Any Barrier Utilities

Before you start building the pool, you will want to know where all the utilities are. You do not want to have the pool installed over any utility lines. In addition, if you have a septic system, you will want to make sure that the pool is not located near or over the drainfield because the weight of the pool and water can cause it to collapse. Have your property surveyed and the utilities marked before you start your project.

3. Dealing With Drainage Around The Pool Location

Drainage around your pool is also important. You do not want to have any water draining to the pool area because this erode the sand and cause other problems.  If you have things like gutter downspouts that drain towards your pool location, you may want to consider relocating them.  If your pool is located in an area with a lot of runoff, you can also add a gravel drainage bed to keep runoff from draining near the pool.

4. Adding Decks Or Fencing Around The Pool Area

Finally, you will want to have a fence or decks around your pool. Many areas have building codes for inground and above-ground pool installations. This means that you may need to have a fence around the pool to keep unauthorized people out. If you are going to add a deck to the pool, you may need to have an access gate with a latch to keep people out of the pool area.
